Beachwalk Press Halloween Blog Hop

Now that I have children of my own, I find myself always replaying memories of my childhood. I always knew it was a good one, but I never appreciated just how much effort must have gone into things until I started contemplating doing them for my children.
Because we lived miles from anywhere, and had a huge family (my parents fostered children), trick or treating was kind of impossible. So what my parents used to do was dress up the whole house in lots of glowing things and pumpkins, lanterns and candles, cobwebs...you name it. We'd all dress up ourselves, have some seasonal food like pumpkin soup or pumpkin cake, and then all the lights would go out, our house was be transformed into this spooky maze, and we'd go on this treasure hunt for our sweets and chocolate. The spooky twist? Our parents would also be hiding somewhere ready to jump out on us along the way. Somehow regular trick or treating had never managed to measure up to the hours of fun I remember having on Halloween as a young child. I only hope I can make it just as fun this year for my own children :)

Beachwalk Press Turns 3!

Happy Birthday Beachwalk Press! I'm so lucky to have stumbled across this publisher when I was looking for a home for my first book Business and Pleasure just over two years ago! I can honestly say that I could not have found a better home, nor a more supportive group of authors. Here's to many more years together!

My three favourite things about being an author?

Just three? I could talk about this all day!
  1. It is never a chore. Writing has been my hobby and my passion all my life, and now I'm a published author it just feels great to share that with other people. It could never be seen as a job, because it's how I unwind.
  2. I've got to know some great people from all over the place, people I would never have had a chance to speak to otherwise. Every day is an experience, learning and growing and making some great friends.
  3. It allows me to develop creatively while staying at home to raise my children, and do a degree at the same time. I can't think of anything else that would have given me those kinds of opportunities from my own living room.
I truly feel blessed to be an author, and one with such a great publisher!

Giveaway

Please leave a comment below to be in with a chance of winning a $100 Amazon or Barnes and Noble gift card (winners choice). I will also be giving away a copy of one of the e-books from my series Rags and Riches and will be choosing a winner randomly from the comments below! Good luck!

Holidays with the Beachwalk Babes Hop

My Christmas Traditions

I have a big family, and Christmas has always been a great time for us, because its the one time of year where we ALL get together. When I was a child, because of the full house, I'd always have to bunk up with my sisters on Christmas eve. We always kept each other awake until late, and then I used to love waking up early and listening to every creak in the house until finally, one of those creaks would be our parents opening the door with a stocking full of presents telling us that Santa had been. We always used to have grapefruit for breakfast, a tradition from my grandparents, because during the war fruit was a luxury, and exotic fruit was only for Christmas day. I still serve up grapefruit now, although I can't say my children are very fond of this tradition. And last but not least, the tradition that will always live on in my house. A book wrapped up on the breakfast table for each of us. My father started this, he was a big reader, and thought we should all take a moment to appreciate the written word before the madness of the toys took over!

The Right Kind of Wrong

The book I'm promoting today is the third in my series, Rags and Riches, which came out August this year. Here's a little about it

Blurb

Maybe only someone who's been behind bars can understand how to set her free.
Fresh out of jail, Jamie Pierce is desperate to change his ways and become a better person. He wants to earn enough money to get out of London for good and live a quiet life somewhere in the country. But then he meets Harriet Jones, a beautiful young fashion designer who is plagued by self-doubt, and suddenly leaving doesn't seem so simple.
Harriet has spent years trying to win her father's affection, but time and time again she's been left feeling that she just isn't good enough. When she starts to fall for her rough-around-the-edges neighbor, she knows her father would never approve.
It was only meant to be a fling, but maybe the person who seems so wrong for her could be just the kind of person she needs. Can Jamie help Harriet learn to believe in herself, or will she remain trapped in her own prison of self-doubt?

Ella's Turning What?

Happy Birthday Ella! Hope you have a good one :)

Ella's Turning What?

My best birthday memory was 2011. My partner crept out in the morning the morning and wrote a message to me out in the sand on the beach outside our flat. He took me and our son out for an ice cream breakfast and proposed. Hopefully next year we'll top that special day with actually getting married ;)

Here's a little bit about my novella Business and Pleasure, which just happens to be on sale right now at $0.99!

Blurb

Can mixing business and pleasure ever result in a happy ending?
When sexy, rich Lawrence Russo asks Mia to come and work for him in Italy for two weeks, she jumps at the chance. After all, it beats pole dancing, and the salary he offers her is practically obscene.
A relationship quickly begins to develop between the two, but Mia can't help but wonder if Lawrence's feelings for her are genuine or if he feels he's just paying for a service.
Even if their relationship is strong enough to survive her insecurities, what will happen when somebody from her past shows up and threatens to reveal her deepest, darkest secret?

The Best of Both Worlds

A choice between two men? If only it were that simple.
Melissa Morgan seems to have it all…her modeling career is taking off and she's engaged to one of the most eligible bachelors in London. But when she finds Jonathan cheating on her again, Melissa finds solace in the arms of Riley, a sexy bar owner trying to recover from the heartbreak of his last relationship. Melissa shouldn't even want Riley, but she can't seem to stay away, especially when she finds in him everything that's missing in her relationship with Jonathan.

Melissa knows she has to make a hard choice, and when it comes to choosing between the life she's always wanted and the man she's falling in love with, she might find out that she can't have the best of both worlds.

Beachwalk Press and Me

What attracted me to Beachwalk Press in the first place? I found Beachwalk Press before I even thought about publishing my stories with them. I liked a couple of authors that had books published here and soon found many more. I'd written a different version of the Rags and Riches series as a short story, but it was too long (and probably too naughty) to send out to magazines and I wanted to explore the characters more, so I wrote this version of Business and Pleasure (a lot messier back then) and started looking around for publishers. I probably dove in headfirst, which I do a lot, but I already loved this publisher and decided to take a risk.
A year later I can tell you that risk really paid off. I've learned so much, and not just from the publisher and my editor but from the other authors here too. We really are a family and there's always somebody around to help out and give advice, even if it's not writing related. I've loved every moment of being a Beachwalk Babe and hope to have many more books released with this publisher in the future :)
